And Does The Savings Catcher App Really Pay You?
I previously wrote a Walmart Savings Catcher app review, discussing why I liked it (and especially why it was great if you live in a rural area.) Today, I'm going to follow up by answering a question I've seen asked a lot: Does the savings catcher app really work?
You bet it does. It works and it pays.
So how easy is it to redeem your Savings Catcher rewards?
How to Get Your Walmart Savings Catcher Reward Dollars
Assuming you've been using the app for awhile and accumulated a little extra cash, you may be ready to redeem your savings. You can only use the your reward dollars at Walmart, so basically, you aren't earning cash. More like loading a gift card.
There are three ways to redeem:
1. Onto a Walmart Store Card.
The credit card, not a gift card. I haven't done this since I am a zero credit card kind of gal. If you already have the store card, the instructions are on your Savings Catcher account for how to transfer your reward dollars to your card balance.
2. Phone Code
When you redeem your card, an email is sent to you. It may take up to 24 hours to appear, so don't wait until the last minute (like me) if it is for something you need right away.
When your email arrives, you can show your phone to the cashier. I haven't done this because I currently don't have a phone of my own, but this is how my parent's (who are way too tech savvy) like to use their savings catcher money.
3. Printable Email
Now we are down in the "me" method. I simply printed off the confirmation email, which came with a bar code. I showed it to the cashier and she scanned it with her handy laser gun.
Easy peasy, and was faster than swiping a debit card (especially now that we have to fool with the swipe+chip reader).
As with any gift card, my receipt showed the remaining balance once my card was used.
And that's it. That is literally how easy it is to use the Walmart Savings Catcher app to build some extra money.
Here are some tips:
Tips for Using and Saving More
First of all, you won't save anything on Walmart brand products. The app works by comparing what you paid at Walmart to prices at competitor stores in your area.
If a lower price is found on the exact same product, then you are refunded the difference. Therefore, brand-name items are your winners.
Since we don't buy very many brand name items, it takes a longer time for us to build up a substantial amount of earnings. You can help the process by:
1. Watching Local Sales
Instead of hitting all the stores and buying products (and wasting a lot of gas money) just make a list of what you want to buy and get it at Walmart instead. If their shelf-price is higher, the savings catcher app will find it and refund your difference.
2. Buying Your Bulk Items
If you like to stockpile, do a little research to see if you can save money by buying bulk items at Walmart (figuring in what you will earn as a refund.) Sometimes it isn't cheaper, but sometimes it's cheaper AND you get a reward dollars.
3. Repurpose Your Reward Dollars
Rather than using your savings for indulgences, use them to buy household necessities like toilet paper and shampoo that you normally would have bought with cash.
If you time it right, you will be using free money, and possibly earning MORE reward dollars back if lower prices are found. Win-Win.
You can also use your savings catcher app in combination with other savings apps to maximize your earnings. It might take a little planning and research, but still way easier (in my opinion) than coupons or going store to store with an armload of sales papers. (unless you can really get a better deal that way.)
Shop Once, Get Paid
Because the app is so easy to use, it is one of my favorite money-saving tools. You don't have to unlock any items, hunt for deals or rebates, or go through any hassle.
There is no minimum amount for payout, and you can scan your receipts with your phone OR type them on your computer or tablet. It's convenient for anyone, and yes...it really does pay you back!
(Note: This is not a sponsored post, and Walmart didn't twist my arm in any way to make me write this. This is just my honest opinion of a tool I use to earn a little extra cash while buying things I need anyways.
